Fish clear pools and runs beneath spectacular limestone cliffs, with plenty of easily accessible water for both fly and spinner fishing.
Fishing is available year-round. Bring your gear and a valid New Zealand fishing licence, available online. If you'd like some local expertise, we can help you arrange a fishing guide for your stay.
The fishing season at Ripples Retreat is now all year.. You will need a valid New Zealand fishing license to fish here which can be purchased online.
The Mangaotaki River has beautiful pools and runs, with Rainbow and Brown trout found throughout this stretch.
We implement a catch and release policy at Ripples to ensure there's an ample supply of fish for everyone. The summer fishing of 2025 was plentiful, with our fish growing in size, including this stunning rainbow.
The tranquil Mangaotaki River which runs past our retreat has both ;larger pools and shallow sections running over rocks. This makes it suitable for both fly and spin fishing. .
When you stay at Ripples Retreat, you'll have access to the private Taumangahau Stream, which flows through our farm and into the Mangaotaki River. It's not just a beautiful fishing spot, but a spectacular natural setting with cascading waterfalls.
